Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT) is similar to human chiropractic medicine. Dr. Busalacchi is certified in VSMT, which she often uses to treat sick pets and animal athletes. VSMT can help improve movement in patients that develop pain and stiffness due to poorly functioning joints in the spinal column. Without treatment, this condition can lead to lameness and muscle loss.

To properly treat your pet, we need to evaluate their health, range of motion, and spinal column. If we find vertebrae that are “stuck” we can perform specific, quick thrusts to reduce stiffness and improve range of motion. If the nervous system is not functioning well, it will affect all areas of the body.

VSMT care can be used to treat various health problems including:

• Neck, back, leg, or tail pain
• Injuries from slips and falls
• Muscle spasms
• Nerve problems
• Musculoskeletal weakness

While VSMT treatment is commonly used to treat injuries, it can also be utilized for regular maintenance of the spine and joints.
