Preventive Care
The Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic Ltd believes that routine annual medical exams, vaccinations, deworming, and dental exams are imperative to keeping your horse healthy. Therefore, we make preventive medicine the hallmark of our care. In fact, we offer an Equine Wellness Program that offers all of our recommended vaccinations, dental exams, deworming, and nutrition and weight management consultation at a 25% savings to our clilents.

Medical Case Management
Our veterinarians work diligently to provide top quality care to the acutely and chronically ill patient. Appointments can be made in advance to manage the chronic illnesses while acute cases are treated as emergencies upon your phone call. Dentistry – Dental care is important in maintaining the overall health and proper weight of your horse as well as optimizing performance. Our dental care services range from simple floats to more involved care such as tooth extraction.

Integrative Medicine – We recognize that clients have diverse views with regard to treatment regimes for themselves as well as for their pets. Acupuncture can help relieve the symptoms of many of the health progrems that afflict our dogs, cats, and horses. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and homeopathy is available as either the primary therapy choice or as an adjunct therapy for your horse’s or pet’s medical condition.

Lameness & Sports Medicine

Our equine veterinarians are skilled at diagnosing and treating lamenesses that range from laminitis to arthritis. Horses in our practice range from the family pet that is ridden infrequently in the back yard to the most highly conditioned equine athlete showing at the upper levels. Our doctors have at their disposal the finest medical diagnostic and treatment equipment including:

Digital X-Ray – The Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic Ltd has recently acquired a state-of-the-art digital x-ray system. Radiographic images are immediate and of the highest quality. Digital imaging software allows our veterinarians to optimize the image for more accurate reading and diagnosis, including some soft tissue evaluation. Images can be transmitted for a second opinion by copying to a CD or via the internet. Our digital x-ray machine is available for use on your farm or at the clinic.

Shockwave Therapy – Our Shockwave Machine aids in healing a number of conditions causing lameness by emitting high-energy sound waves to the affected body part. Shock waves have been shown to stimulate bone formation, healing of tendons and ligaments, and pain relief. Shockwave therapy can be used on suspensory ligament disease, bowed tendons, ringbone, bone spavin, splints, sore backs, navicular syndrome, and delayed or non-healing fractures.

Ultrasound – Ultrasound is used for the evaluation of the soft tissue structures of the horse. Ultrasound is best used for deep penetration of muscles, nerve damage, tendon injury, trauma, bursitis and scars in contracted tissue.

IRAP – Our doctors can cultivate and centifuge IRAP cultures for joint injections. IRAP is derived from the horse’s own blood. It multiplies a natural protein in the blood that blocks pain and inflammation, therefore decreasing swelling and eliminating lameness.
